It began during high school as I led Safeleaf which tackled the issue of India’s lack of waste management technology of separating different materials in non-recyclable disposables. Safeleaf won the award for Large Measurable Impact in the Changemaker Challenge, a competition seeking to cause impactful change in society, where over 70 schools in Bangalore, India participated. Leading my team of three, we replaced around 20,000 non-recyclable utensils with biodegradable alternatives just in our school and strived for a zero-waste environment in various communities by increasing awareness to over 50,000 people. We also initiated societal impact by sourcing the alternatives from a non-profit organization (Amogh) that provided employment to mentally-challenged adults.
